What is the difference between sexologist, sexual psychologist, sexual therapist?
A relatively recent profession with several names. Little is known about these professions - let's find out more!
Sexologist – sexual therapist, sexual psychologist – éveken át alig volt hazánkban. Hallottunk Dr. Veres Pálról, Dr. Lux Elviráról, Dr. Rusz Editről, olvashattuk könyveiket, illetve az Ifjúsági Magazinba beérkezett kérdésekre adott válaszaikat, de itt kimerült a tudásunk. Nekem volt szerencsém mindegyikükkel találkozni: sosem felejtem el, amit tőlük tanultam.
The sexual psychologist or sexual therapist training was not widespread. It is not widely known that there is help for sexual problems, that there is a sexologist who can competently support individuals and couples in this important area of life. Since then, two professional organisations have been established and are still in operation: the Sexological Scientific Society and the Hungarian Society of Sexual Medicine.
What is the sexual psychologist, sexual therapist, sexologist?
- Sexual problems, lack of desire and orgasm, premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, painful intercourse treatment, repair
- help with relationship breakdowns
- preventing divorces, break-ups, repairing relationships
- increasing the sexual confidence of individuals
- treatment of anger, rage, sadness, depression, anxiety, shyness, ignorance of common misconceptions, suicidal urges, and reassurance from sexual problems
- education, awareness raising, dispelling misconceptions, prevention of STDs, unwanted pregnancies, rape
- empowering the individual by addressing individual sexual problems so that he or she is more confident in entering into a relationship
- solving problems that hinder the development of a relationship (pornography addiction, vaginismus, body image issues, etc.)
- preventing the appearance of cheats, mistresses
- education on sexuality in old age
So the sexual therapist, sexual psychologist help can make a big contribution to the creation and maintenance of more relationships. As a consequence, more children would be born. This suggests that the work of sexual therapist, sex psychologist, sexologist or sexologist is of considerable social value. It is therefore essential that it reaches everyone who needs it.
It would therefore be important for the work of ex psychologists and sex therapists to be funded by social insurance.
Academic background, training
Sex therapist past and present:
2010 óta folyik szexuálterapeuta képzés hazánkban. Dr. Rusz Edit honosította meg anno még a SOTE anyaintézmény berkein belül ezt a továbbképzést. Ez olyan diplomás személyek részére lett meghirdetve, akiknek a végzettsége nem feltétlenül pszichológus, hanem bármilyen más humán területen segítő szakember. Én például eredetileg szociálpolitikus vagyok. Az élet legkülönbözőbb területeiről érkező diplomás szakemberek alkotják a szexuálterapeuták közösségét. Az első szexterapeuta 2012 óta praktizál. 2020. januárig a végzettek képesítése sexual therapist volt. A „szexuálterapeuta” képesítés ma már elvileg nem létezik. Minden olyan szexuálterapeuta, akinek eredeti diplomája nem orvosi, illetve nem klinikai szakpszichológusi, ma szexológus néven működik. A terms sex therapy, sex therapist, sexual therapist are slowly therapy, therapist – szóhasználati változtatások miatt lassan kikopnak. A szexuálterapeuta képzés maradt, a megnevezés szexológus -ra változott.
Sex psychologist, sex therapist past and present:
1984-ben még Dr. Lux Elvira és Dr. Buda Béla tanítványaként lehetett szexuálpszichológus képesítést szerezni. Ma már szexuálpszichológus végzettséget ilyen egyszerűen megszerezni lehetetlen.
Jelenleg az ELTE PPK-n választható ez a szakirány, így, aki ezt hallgatja, szexuálpszichológiai szakpszichológus oklevelet kap. Tudomásom szerint ez a szakirány csupán 2016 óta létezik, így az első végzettek leghamarabb 2018-ban kezdhettek el praktizálni. A szexuálpszichológus képzés 9 éves: pszichológus 5 év + klinikai szakpszichológus 2 év + szexuálpszichológus 2 év. A képzés erőssége az elmélet: kiemelkedő a szexológiai, sexual psychology is outstanding.
A szexuálterapeuta, képzés: alapdiploma (5 év) + 1 év. A képzés jelentős része és ezáltal of the training, and thus its strength, is the practice: i.e. sexual therapy situations are created in which students of the sexual therapist course act either as clients or as sexual therapists . Each situation is analysed by Dr. Edit Rusz and the other sexual therapist, sexologist sexual therapists, known as the student.
The students who passed the state examination for the course changed the title from sex therapist to sexologist due to a temporary change in the law. The law was repealed and since then both titles have been used. However, the title of sexologist can be used by anyone who works in the field of sexology.
